Dear Potential Wife

Dear Potential Wife, 

I pray that you are not waiting around for me. That you are living life and loving those around you. I would say I have been looking for you, but lying isn't a great way to start a marriage in my opinion... However, I can truthfully say I have been preparing for you. I learned a long time ago that if you expect something for too long, you might be disappointed if you do (or do not) get it. So I have tried to live not expecting marriage, but for the potential of marriage. So that I will have no expectation of you except for you to be who you are. I am living life with the potential of you.

I am learning to communicate better so our (potential) time together will be filled with more laughter and joy, than sadness and self-doubt. I am learning to see the good and be gentle with the hurting. I am working on being uncomfortable for someone else's comfort. And I walk through life knowing good and evil exist, and sometimes life isn't always so black and white. I might not always understand you, but I will always love you.

I pray that you will be gracious with me when I inevitably say the wrong thing or fail to meet your expectations. I pray that you will be gentle with me when I forget an important date or show up late. And I pray you will never doubt my love or loyalty to you.

I make you no promise to be perfect, but I promise to always be understanding. I promise you that I will love you and care for you. I promise that I will defend your heart, and if I fail, I will be there to pick up the pieces and put them back together. and I promise to be your cheerleader for all the big and small things you will accomplish in life.

I ask that we be patient with one another, and always be truthful (even when it hurts). I ask that even when we don't know what to say, we will still try. And I ask that you never try and bear all your burdens alone, because we are each other's helpmates, and we can bear this yoke together.
